Christian Louboutin Pigalle Spikes Red Sole Pump

Dubai or not to buy? That was the question I asked myself after spotting a fabulous pair of Christian Louboutin heels while shopping in the UAE a few years back. My husband and I had made a pit-stop at the Dubai Mall to say hello to a few friends (Christian, Ralph and Calvin of course) when my eyes locked on these little beauties.

They were gorgeous black Pigalle Spikes with the classic red Louboutin sole. I was in love. Head over heels. And (very) lucky for me, my husband decided to buy them as a treat and these were added to my (small) collection.

I’ve had my Louboutins for a few years now, and they still turn heads everywhere I go. It’s as though the red sole acts as a fashion magnet, you just can’t look away. I feel a bit like Cinderella every time I slip them on. Well maybe more like Cinderella if she was getting dressed up for the MTV music awards instead of a boring old ball. Plus I wouldn’t want to risk some left-footed prince scuffing my gorgeous shoes on the dance floor.

Christian Louboutin Pigalle SpikesStrong designer statement pieces like the Pigalle Spikes are one of my favourite wardrobe essentials. They add that certain “je ne sais quoi” to otherwise dull, uninspiring outfits. Paired with jeans or an LBD and it takes you from zero to fashion hero in seconds. They are my confidence cape. And I think you just feel that little bit better when you wear the real thing. You stand a little straighter; you smile a bit more. It just doesn’t compare to knock off designer shoes and bags.

And of course, nothing can match the whole designer shopping experience. The beautifully decorated stores and showrooms. The plush seats. The design of the packaging. The sturdy shopping bag. The shiny gold label. I love delicately opening the box and getting hit with the couture equivalent of that “new car smell”. It beats buying a Chanel Flap Bag out of the boot of an old lorry any day.

In a perfect world, I would have a closet full of Louboutins. And Manolos. And Valentinos for that matter. But for now, I am delighted to have some beautiful key pieces to spice up my wardrobe. The undeniable love for my heels can probably be summed up by (mis)quoting rocker Freddie Mercury. “Red bottom shoe, you make the rockin’ world go round.”
