Val de Vie Grapevine - Kumari Govender

How long have you lived on Val de Vie?
3 years

Elaborate on what it is like to work in this beautiful surrounding and how easy it is to manage a balanced lifestyle?
I feel immensely blessed to be able to live and work on this gorgeous estate. Surrounded by so much beauty leaves me feeling inspired. I love the flexibility of having a beautiful home office and the tranquility and convenience of living on this world-class estate.

Tell us a bit more about your business?
For me being a Fashion Entrepreneur is a cross-pollination of art, creativity, design and innovation. It is a conscious curation of style in all forms. As a proprietor of many startups connected to fashion’s fast-paced industry, I am always looking for innovative ways to reinvent my brands. 2016 was quite a busy year – I launched both my online store and my clothing line. My online store Haute Edit (hauteedit.com) showcases a finely curated, unique collection of fashion, accessories, ceramics, tableware, furniture, and homewares handmade with love by celebrated artisans from all over the world.

I have just launched The Style Concierge – a membership only, ‘style on a dial’ subscription service that offers an array of style related services to top-tier clients who have been pre-approved by myself and added to my special ‘VIP List’. I host ultra-exclusive, invite-only, private shopping soirees in secret locations specially catered for my VIP shoppers, with an unending flow of champagne and hors d’oeuvres where they get to preview my latest collection of fashion, jewellery, interiors and ceramics before it goes on sale to the public.

With the new bridge opening in January 2018, connecting our estate to the R45 with easy access to Stellenbosch, N1 and CPT Airport – how will this affect your business?
My Cape Town based clients will enjoy easy access to Val de Vie especially for my private styling services and style events.

Tell us a bit more about the networking on Val de Vie Estate?
I’ve met some incredible people on the estate who have become good friends and have supported both my online store and boutique events.

What is your mantra/advice for achieving business success in the Cape Winelands area?
I have found that clients want convenience and clients are willing to pay for convenience. Also collaborating with other businesses helps grow your reach.
