On the 15th of November, I joined some of Cape Town’s most esteemed industry experts at the first phase of judging for Foschini Fashion Design Awards 2014. How exciting, right?!
Even though fashion is a part of my DNA, I did feel a bit daunted at first but I trusted my creative eye and enjoyed every moment. Not only did I get to connect with some of the leaders in Cape Town’s fashion industry but I also got to appreciate some of SA’s most promising, up and coming designers. Foschini Fashion Design Awards provides the perfect outlet for fresh new talent. After going through stacks of promising entries, 10 semi-finalists were selected from across the country.
The 10 semi-finalists of the Foschini Fashion Design Awards 2014 are Sthandiwe Khumalo from Durban and Zandalee Broodryk, Frances Loots, Julia Bass, Marquin Sampson, Emily Hellens, Courtney Dippenaar, Nicole Damata, Jade Rea and Sane Bosman from Cape Town.
Their next challenge: to create an exhibition outfit reflecting their unique design style within a budget, inspired by the creative theme of the competition “From Bauhaus to Boho”. The 10 designers were all visited at their schools by the Foschini team last week, and were presented with the brief packs for their exhibition garments.
