A classic novel I’m sure many of you read in school and watched many a times the 1974 version with Robert Redford as Gatsby. From the director of Romeo + Juliet (1996) and Moulin Rouge! (2001), Baz Luhrmann’s highly anticipated film retells the story of The Great Gatsby.
This time we see Leonardo DiCaprio as the gorgeous Gatsby, and others actors like Gemma Ward and rising star Carey Mulligan. This film has been rescheduled a couple times and has heightened our expectations, but America only has to wait for the 10th of May 2013 (and South Africa will have to wait for either pirates or Nu Metro – depending on your ethics #jusysaying),
Miuccia Prada also revealed some designs of the costumes for the film, and with Lana Del Ray heading the soundtrack there is sure to be big fashion influence to come. We’re going to see more fashion trends that take influence from the 1920’s fashion like opulent beading, low waisted dresses, open backs and even book references, I just love the sweatshirt with “Party at Gatsby’s” because as we all know the Roaring 20’s was particularly awesome at Gatsby’s place.
Era’s always come in and out of season but there is no book quite like The Great Gatsby that is a trend from one generation to the next.
The Great Gatsby is to be released in South Africa on 17 May 2013
