Donatella Versace has kept her brother’s last designed collection before his death a mystery, until now. Gianni Versace’s last collection was shown in Paris in July 1997, it was a dark collection very different to his previous looks and this Versace Winter 2012/13 collection continued in this theme. She probably kept this collection a secret to give Gianni’s last collection honour by showing it at an appropriate time, when the opulent Gothic fashion trend was in again and as shown below there are many other designers trending this story too.
So we see fashion houses like Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, Ann Demeulemeester, Mugler and Givenchy, present a Modern Gothic fashion trend in their Winter 2012/13 collections too. Outfits had fur accents to give a barbaric medieval touch, mesh that had a chainmail look, embroidery for a historical feel and lots of leather. All in their own signature that is. Where Versace was more opulent, Wang more sporty, Proenza Schouler more oriental and Givenchy more tailored.
It is clear that they designed their collections to bring out a warrior medieval woman in the wearer.
Maybe because ‘Winter is coming’ and Game of Thrones is an influential epic tv series at the moment?
