This DIY Turmeric Face Mask Recipe Is My Secret To Glowing Skin…
This DIY Turmeric Face Mask Recipe is my secret to glowing skin. Turmeric is an instant skin brightener and helps fade pigmentation and acne scars.
We are all for feel-good self-care routines. And this DIY Turmeric Face Mask Recipe is about to make your radiant skin dreams come true. Have you ever wondered what the secret is to healthy glowing skin? I’ve been there and seduced by the promise of high priced cult beauty products, throwing thousands at my face. And I was investing in skincare with the hopes of achieving that coveted even-toned complexion.
The truth is – it’s never quite that simple! But over time, I’ve discovered what works and what doesn’t. I’ve managed to find my holy grail in skincare products and home remedies. This helps keep my hyperpigmentation under control and my brown skin looking and feeling it’s natural best!
What Is Hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation is the unusual darkening of the skin due to the overproduction of melanin, which is triggered by acne, inflammation, skin trauma or prolonged sun exposure. Indian women are prone to hyperpigmentation, so it is one of our biggest skincare concerns, and this has been an enormous struggle for me over the years. Before I go on, I would like to highlight that there are no quick fixes. It is most important to follow a consistent skincare regime and continuously take the necessary precautions to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Steps To Take To Prevent Hyperpigmentation
- Wear a good sunscreen every day. I cannot highlight this enough.
- Avoid exposure to the sun during its peak hours, between 10 am and 2 pm.
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat to shield your face from direct UV rays.
- Incorporate a suitable Vitamin C Serum into your routine for added protection from UV and environmental damage.
This do-it-yourself turmeric face-mask deeply rooted in India’s ancient beauty rituals has been my ride-or-die for an instant glow. With continuous use, it has reduced my hyperpigmentation and evened out my skin tone.
TURMERIC (HALDI), INDIA’S MIRACLE POWDER
Growing up with strong ties to my Indian heritage, the distinctive scent and colour of turmeric has been deeply woven through the tapestry of my life. The fine golden-yellow concoct an instant skin brightener with its cool touch and the sharp smell of freshly rain-anointed earth. Turmeric works miraculously to help fade pigmentation and acne scars.
My childhood memories of turmeric are immersed in a flavour-filled and colourful world brought to life by ageless stories of both my mother and grandmother.
I called her ayah, and she was a cornucopia of childish delights for me.
My grandmother shielded me from my mother’s timely and firm taps on the head reserved for the instances I turned too boisterous. She sneaked little treats into my room while the cruel world relegated me to a corner, hemmed in by books. And she slathered haldi on my scraped knees, giving me the confidence to go traipsing back into the world.
So, naturally, I am nostalgic about this magical medicinal yellow powder.
I’ve learned to treat turmeric with reverence and respect. It is a timeless natural beauty secret. I am grateful to thoroughly enjoy the convenience of modern processing that has brought me beauty, health and childhood memories in a box.
Golden Turmeric Face Mask Recipe: An Ancient Beauty Secret
I never quite understood why brides-to-be would sit willingly, clad in a saree, as married women applied streaks of haldi moistened with mustard oil to their faces. That was until my day arrived. Then I, too, understood and appreciated the significance of this holy powder. Turmeric awards you the ultimate ethereal golden glow and brings a divine luminescence to the skin.
From Ubtans To Medicines
The ancients were bright because they did not have an aesthetician on speed dial but achieved that unreal golden glow. They found myriad uses for plants, herbs and fruit with medicinal properties. And turmeric was one of those natural ingredients rich in benefits that we can still enjoy today.
Turmeric Is What I Like To Call “The Holy Gold”
Curcuma Longa, Turmeric, is supercharged with antioxidants. It soothes irritated skin, reduces inflammation and protects against environmental damage. Turmeric is also known to improve and reduce hyperpigmentation and acne scars. And, so of course, the benefits are endless.

How TO Make A Turmeric Face Mask?
DIY MIRACLE TURMERIC FACE MASK RECIPE
I am sharing ‘How to Make a Turmeric Face Mask?’ in my favourite turmeric skincare recipe. To receive the full benefits of this four-ingredient turmeric facial mask, make sure you start with a gentle cleansing routine. After that, gently pat dry your skin using a soft natural fibre cloth.
Ingredients:
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tbsp Honey
3 tbsp Yoghurt
3 tbsp Besan Flour
Instructions:
- To prepare your mask, warm up the honey, ever so slightly, in a small glass bowl.
- Then stir in the yoghurt.
- After that add the turmeric and besan flour gently bringing all the ingredients together to form a thick paste.
- Be careful not to whisk or over-mix as you need to achieve a thick consistency that will not drip. Using a clean brush, apply your miracle turmeric mask to your cleansed face and neck, making sure to avoid the eye area.
- Leave your mask on for approximately 30 minutes.
- Wash off with warm water, and gently dry using a soft natural fibre cloth.
Voilà, you have an age-old facial mask (ubtan) that can put the Estee Lauders of the world to shame.

CAN’T SPARE 30 MINUTES? WHY NOT TRY MY QUICK AND EASY ON-THE-GLOW TURMERIC FIX?
- Prepare a paste of turmeric with water and honey and apply a thin layer to your face for a sun-kissed blush.
- Add ½ teaspoon of organic turmeric powder to edible coconut oil and ingest for an inside-out body cleanse with moisturising benefits.
- Sprinkle some magical organic turmeric powder over a glass of steaming milk flavoured with ginger root. You can bid everything from a sore throat to chronic fatigue goodbye.
Studies have shown that the curcumin in turmeric is poorly absorbed into our system. Therefore, consuming turmeric on its own could leave you missing out on its health benefits. So, remember to add some ground pepper to your turmeric milk because piperine found in pepper enhances curcumin absorption in the body by up to 2000%. And the combination of both curcumin and piperine are powerful, hence, maximising the results of your golden milk.
