Dubai Shopping Sins | When In Doubt Splurge

If you happen to be looking for some shopping therapy without busting a massive hole in your wallet, it’s time to turn your gaze towards Dubai. It’s no secret that one of my favourite pastimes when in DUBAI is SHOPPING!

I like to think of shopping as a reward for my efforts. Maybe I should highlight that I usually try to avoid the stores as much as possible all year long. I might do a quick shop to add a few seasonal pieces to my existing wardrobe twice a year at the most. Still, I am usually very disciplined about saving my fashionable Rands for more classic investment pieces. So while this might seem like a big splurge, my yearly spend isn’t close to crazy. When you let go of all guilt and splurge something inside you changes.

Dubai Shopping Sins

Dubai has so much to offer in terms of shopping. My quest began at the Souk. I started off modest with packets of vibrant spices and strands of precious saffron! I could not resist. After all, I am a fashionista who is a foodie at heart. Quickly moved on to one of my favourites – traditional handmade leather ‘jutti ‘slippers (now available at hauteedit.com). I purchased my first pair at a Saturday slow market in Musgrave, Durban over a decade ago but never seemed to find these beauties anywhere. So I was over the moon to find a variety in Dubai. Then there came the stylish kaftans to add some ‘Wow’ to my poolside forays this Summer.

Feeling proud of myself for having been somewhat restrained, I decided to risk a trip to the Dubai Mall. After all, how bad can it be? Turns out…very bad! Those who know me will shake their heads in resignation. I can’t escape the allure of Dolce & Gabbana at the worst of times (read no discounts). Imagine the kind of frenzy that settled over me when I stepped into the Dolce & Gabbana store at the Dubai Mall.

Dolce and Gabbana – thou art my failing!

DUBAI SHOPPING SINS – WHEN IN DOUBT SPLURGE

I invested in some beautiful chic pieces. A gorgeous, calf leather statement wallet, a passport cover in the stylish banana leaf print and a pair of Bellucci Crystal pumps. What do you mean that’s extravagant? I needed the heels. My collection back home was getting lonely.

Feeling very accomplished, I headed out for a quick coffee at the Armani Cafe. And that was when I saw ‘IT’! The mega bumper granddaddy of all sales at Level Shoes, which is the biggest shoe store in the world, I’m told. I scored a fabulous pair of Oscar De La Renta heels in my favourite colour – haute pink.

On my way out, I also could not resist a bottle of Arabian Oud perfume. Oud Royal is a warm and spicy elixir of agarwood, which is very popular in the Arab region. I have an everlasting obsession with Oud – I could bathe in the stuff. I ended my dessert madness with a visit to Hugo Boss – for the patient and ever forgiving hubby! One thing’s for sure – shopping is so good for the soul!
